“Ruka Ayllu” is a 7 Petal School for Peace based on the educational proposal by Pedagooogia 3000. They are located in Tomé, near Concepción, Chile.
– Ruka means “house” in Mapudungun (Mapuche).
– Ayllu means “community” in Quechua.
A personalised school
Their proposal tries to gather the best of various methodologies and pedagogical currents that they have acquired and learned and try to apply them to the individuality of each child. Each time a new student enters the school, the facilitators begin a period of observation, placing emphasis on the seven areas of human development, which correspond to the “seven petals”. Based on these observations, they make a proposal to the parents and generate an individual project within the general programme of the school. Further steps are about considering the contents (curriculum) and adapting them to the general projects developed in “Ruka Ayllu”.
In short, they link the needs of each student with the 7 petal school and the national curriculum. To a large extent, they have been doing this through the Project Based Learning (PBL) methodology. Their classrooms correspond to what is called in Chile a multigrade classroom, children of different ages meet together and develop projects together.
More information about them can be found in the book CurriVIDA (Spanish version) on https://p40005000.info/libros-4000-5000/
